Itinerary
Day 1 :
Arrive in Axum
Our Ethiopian adventure begins in Axum, the heart of ancient Ethiopia. Day 1 will be packed with historical wonders. We'll marvel at the iconic obelisks, one recently returned from Italy, and delve into the past at the archaeological museum. The Queen of Sheba's Bath, a testament to ingenious water management, will quench our thirst for knowledge. We'll also pay respects at Ezana's inscription, the tombs of Kings Kaleb and Bazen, and the legendary Queen of Sheba's Palace. A visit to St. Mary of Zion Church, believed to house the Ark of the Covenant, is a must. While only men can enter the old church, the sheer significance of this holy site is undeniable.
Day 2 :
Yeha, Debre Damo Monastery and Medhane Alem Adi Kesho
Takes us on a journey through time. We'll explore the ruins of Yeha, an ancient capital that predates Axum. Next, we'll embark on a daring (men only) pilgrimage to the Debre Damo Monastery, accessible only by a 15-meter rope climb. Our Tigray adventure continues with a stop at the breathtaking rock-hewn church of Medhane Alem Adi Kesho. We'll rest for the night in Hawsein, enjoying the comforts of a hotel or lodge.
Day 3 :
Abuna Yemata Guh, Abreha we Atsbeha , Chirkosand Drive Mekele
Offers a challenging yet rewarding choice. Hike for about an hour to either Abune Yemata Guh or Maryam Korkor, both churches rewarding us with stunning panoramic views. After refueling with lunch, we'll visit the more accessible churches of Abreha we Atsbeha and Chirkos. Our day concludes with a drive to Mekele, where we'll spend the night comfortably in a hotel.
Day 4 :
Allows us to explore Mekele city
In the morning, soaking up the local atmosphere. After a delicious lunch, we'll head to the airport for our return flight to Addis Ababa, brimming with memories of Ethiopia's rich history and cultural tapestry.
