For those wanting just a brief introduction to the alien landscape of the Danakil Depression, it is possible to take a day trip from the base town of Mekele. Be prepared for a lot of time in a vehicle!

Day 1 :
Mekelle- Dallol- Mekelle
Drive to Dallol from Mekelle very early in the morning tour Drive to Ragad (Asebo), the place where the localities are mining salt. 1,200 km2 (460 sq mi) the Afar Depression is covered by salt, we will experience the activity of breaking the salt from the ground, just like the local people are cutting in to rectangular pieces and loading on camels. We will then drive ahead to Dallol and visit the different landscape formed by volcanic activity, Dallol + Lake Assal + Salt Canon, camel caravans, we will then follow by camel caravans and finally drive back to HamadEla for lunch and proceed to Mekelle.
